Staccato FM Screening

STACCATO screening
For extraordinarily fine image detail you cannot beat staccato screening. This cutting edge printing process is a sophisticated method of representing a continuous tone image by converting shading and colors into a random pattern. The process has the affect of "piling" ink on paper (similar to rotogravure) for improved print quality. Conventional screening utilizes round dots and screen angles. Staccato printing utilizes random dot placement and various dot sizes, thus allowing a closer look and feel of the digital or analog photograph. The result is smoother flesh tones, finer details, elimination of moirés, and a 15% wider color gamut. .

STACCATO screening brings tonal and color stability to the pressroom, by reducing variations in dot gain, wet trap, and color contamination from paper. The random nature of the STACCATO screening software halftone patterns also means that misregistration does not degrade the look of the halftone, nor does it cause overall color shifts in presswork. Unique halftones are used in each separation to prevent dot-on-dot printing.
With this kind of stability, you can reliably replace custom colors with process screen builds.
